In the summer of 2023, Samuel Jaggi and Daniel Wagmann approached the people in charge at AZ Medienhaus AG and the impossible became possible. A building application was submitted at breakneck speed and the planning of the realization was started. Shortly before it was no longer believed to be feasible, the Solothurn municipal building authority issued the building permit in June 2024. In a very intensive construction phase, the premises were transformed into the “Druckerei” club by countless volunteers. The rooms of the old building are characterized by their industrial and brutalist architecture.
The large floor, known as the Rollenlager, offers space for over 300 people and, with its archaic, square concrete columns, has the charm of a Berlin techno bunker – or a cathedral of music. A long bar supplies thirsty guests with drinks and the Seeburg four-point sound system with twelve 21-inch loudspeakers and a total output of over 60,000 watts makes every last bone vibrate.
The small floor, our pressing plant crumples you up and spits you out again. The 150-person floor is as black as night and purist. But the Presswerk has nothing to hide in terms of surface-to-watt ratio. The vintage JBL Soundpower 4-point sound system with 20,000 watts of peak power and a mighty wall of bass generates overpowering energy.
