The Chessu hosts 120 to 150 public events a year, including concerts, parties, theater and cabaret. The diverse cultural offerings attract visitors from all over Switzerland during the ten months of events. The Chessu is also used as a weekly training and course venue for various clubs and groups. It is also used for one-off art and cultural projects. The Chessu is an open space that can be used by anyone for socio-cultural and non-commercial projects free of charge.

The Chessu is a venue where a wide variety of art forms, musical styles, political opinions, etc. are offered a platform. The main focus is on music events, but theater, circus, cabaret and poetry also have a place on the Gaskessel stage. The programme and maintenance of the Gaskessel as an event venue is organized by the Chessu working group.
