A non-commercial space for unconventional music.
Improvised music, techno, rap, off-pop, drones and stoner rock, precise electronics, shoegaze and beatmaking, EBM, bass music, dub, wave, electronica, new music, sound art and noise:
Our programme is designed collectively. Umbo sees itself as an open space for creators in the city who participate in the project.
The club on Röhrenweg
Umbo is a follow-up project to the Elektrik Klubi event series: a series of concerts featuring electronic, experimental and improvised music, which took place on three Tuesdays a month at the Helsinki Klub in 2012. Elektrik Klubi was a place for experimentation, but also a meeting place and forum for exchange for a scene that was networked but scattered, focusing on electronic music but not necessarily on the dance floor.
In the winter of 2012/13, the opportunity arose to take over a club venue at Wasserwerkstrasse 89a: the Klubi association was founded, moved into the former railway station underpass at Letten and continues to operate the venue today.
