Chäslager

The history of the Chäslager

1967 – Foundation of the Chäslager association
Founded in 1967, the association spent the first 15 years organising cultural events in an old cheese warehouse not far from its current location on Ennetmooserstrasse. This also gave rise to the name of the association.

1982 – Move to the farm building on Alter Postplatz
Today’s cheese warehouse was originally a farm building dating back to 1856. The owner of the site, the Höfli Foundation, made the ‘Höfli Gaden’ on Alter Postplatz, which is still in use today and is a listed building, available to the association for cultural activities. The building was converted into a ‘small theatre’ in 1979.

From 1982, the association organised various cultural events in this building in the fields of music, theatre, film, readings and exhibitions.

2019 – Renovation of the cheese store
As part of the major remodelling, the Chäslager was given a new roof and the acoustics in the attic were massively improved. A kitchen was also installed in the Chäslager Lounge (middle floor). The newly installed windows also greatly enhanced the ambience.
